The Violence Of The Urban Centers - 1060 Words

Insecurity in the urban centers is an issue that has been on debate for decades now. Taking Kansas for instance, according to Reuters there was a recent weekend shooting of three teenagers at a large late-night flash mob gathering. This occurrence prompted local authorities to pass an ordinance on Thursday that sets curfews as early as nine p.m. for people under age 18 (murphy, 2015). The question however remains if the youth are safe in our societies with or without curfews. The society has a significant role to play in the protection of the youth not only from joining a bad company and doing drugs but also from violence. The juvenile curfew law may seem vague on grounds that the offender may be caught in the curfew hours while travelling with parents, coming from work, attending school or a religious activity or even running an errand as instructed by an adult, but, it is of prominent importance when it comes to addressing the need to protect the minors from violence and other forms of social ills. It is in this light that we find it necessary to highlight the responsibility of parents, police and community leaders in the setting up of curfews. This is based upon both their social responsibility and obligations too. When it comes to the need of a curfew imposed on the youth, the leading team of expected supporters are the parents. Parents are the direct recipients of the adversities caused by the violence on the youth at night. In cases of death, it is the parents who lose their children. Other parties loose siblings, future voters, and citizens. Parents have a critical role to play in the enforcement of curfew ordinance. The main reason being that parents are usually fined and additionally i t is the parents who still lose their children in and to youth gangs that course insecurity.
